Methodology

Each provider we follow is measured on its 5 GB / 30-day plan for the Europe region, or the nearest thing it sells, and that price is divided by five to give a cost per gigabyte. From those figures we report the average, the median, and the lowest and highest across the 8 providers with a comparable plan.

Unlimited plans stay out because a per-gigabyte figure cannot be derived from them, and free tiers stay out of the paid average. Every price is a guide price, rechecked from time to time, and a promotion can move it, which is why automated re-measurement with a retained history is on the roadmap. The whole series is available in the machine-readable feed.

This index is one of several inputs behind our rankings. The rest, including which sources we rely on and why a commission cannot change the order, is set out in how we rank.
